Former Salado High School three-time state champion Ryan O'Rear made five birdies and fired a 3-under-par 68 in Sunday's final round of the 111th Texas Amateur to share 11th place at Boot Ranch in Fredericksburg.
O'Rear, now a Leander resident, made the 36-hole cut on the number after consecutive 74s, then played his final 36 holes in 4-under 138 to charge up the leaderboard. The former Baylor standout made 14 birdies in the four-day event. The only final-round score better than O'Rear's was the 66 shot by Frisco's Tommy Morrison, who moved into a four-way share of third place at 2-under 282.
Austin's Trey Bosco was at 1-over 143 through two rounds but went 67-69 on the weekend to come back and win the championship with a 5-under 279 total. The incoming Baylor freshman finished one stroke ahead of Arlington's Caleb Hicks, who shot a first-round 65 but didn't break par in the final three rounds.
