GOLF: Salado grad O'Rear makes Texas Amateur cut on number; Belton senior-to-be Hankamer misses cut

Salado graduate Ryan O'Rear shot his second consecutive 3-over-par 74 on Friday to make the 36-hole cut exactly on the number in the 111th Texas Amateur at Boot Ranch in Fredericksburg.

Meanwhile, Temple resident and incoming Belton senior Dallas Hankamer missed the cut after following Thursday's first-round 79 with Friday's second-round 78.

O'Rear, who won three straight Class 2A individual state championships for Salado from 2007-09, now resides in Leander. The former Baylor standout and professional golfer who's regained his amateur status was one of seven players tied for 51st place with a 6-over 148 total. He'll begin the third round at 8:10 a.m. Saturday.

Hankamer, a 6A state tournament qualifier in 2019 as a Belton sophomore, made three birdies on the front nine Friday but was hindered by two double bogeys and six bogeys overall.

Addison's Chris Wheeler carded a 71 to maintain the outright lead at 7-under 135, one stroke ahead of San Antonio's Andres Acevedo and Mark Reppe of Dallas.
